Sustainability in construction
Formwork for the future. Reducing the carbon footprint of concrete construction.
We’re mindful of the impact concrete formwork has on the environment and what we need to do to contribute to sustainability in construction.
Our sustainability priorities
There are many challenges for the construction industry when it comes to sustainability.
As we learn more about the environmental impact of our activities, we’re adapting and updating Metropolitan operations to help us achieve our sustainability priorities and minimise the carbon footprint of our activities.
Minimising pollution
Cutting the volume of construction waste ending up in landfill.
Reducing consumption of natural resources
Cutting the volume of construction waste ending up in landfill.
Finding more sustainable materials

Constructing a low-energy building for Leicester University
Metropolitan worked for Willmott Dixon on the construction of Leicester University’s George Davies Centre. As the UK’s largest low-energy, Passivhaus building this is a great example of the positive steps forward being made with constructing more sustainable buildings.
More sustainable ways of working
Updating our methods of building to work towards more sustainability in construction is a key part of our commitment to ‘building with integrity’.
